Illustrated map of a private property inspired by Napoleonic land registry plans
Private commission
This illustrated map depicts a private property and is inspired by Napoleonic land registry plans. The owner wanted to pay tribute to the history of the property, first mentioned in written records in 1502. Based on the original site plan and historical plot names, the map was created in an A2 format intended to be framed in the house, as well as in a smaller leaflet format for guests and visitors to the property.
Based on the original land registry divisions and plot numbers, the map features illustrations of the property, the watermills located on the land, and a key landscape element: a cliff marking the end of the property. Hand-drawn icons were created for each plot, directly referencing the meaning of their original names. A legend accompanies the map, translating each plot name from the old local dialect into modern French.
