Refugee: The Graphic Novel: Illustrated maps for a comics adaptation
Editorial
I created two illustrated maps in a comics style for Refugee: The Graphic Novel, an adaptation of Alan Gratz’s #1 New York Times bestselling novel, published by Scholastic Graphix in the United States.
When Scholastic reached out, most of the visual universe of the book had already been established. I worked from the existing graphic base to create two additional maps: one map of the European Union circa 2015, indicating all member countries, and one map of Europe in the 1940s showing the countries invaded by Germany at the time.
These maps help contextualize the historical and geopolitical backgrounds of the stories told throughout the graphic novel.
