Illustrated Map of Explore Maurienne for Alpes Magazine
Explore Maurienne is a new tourism identity bringing together several destinations in the lower Maurienne Valley in the French Alps. It promotes the region’s rich natural landscapes, outdoor activities, and cultural heritage through a unified and visitor-friendly experience.
As part of my ongoing collaboration with the French magazine Alpes Magazine (for which I create hiking maps), I was commissioned to illustrate a map of the area for the very first Explore Maurienne Magazine which was put together by the team at Alpes Magazine. This magazine dives deep into what the destination has to offer.
The map, which opens the magazine, includes six key illustrations: an old iron mine turned museum, a cyclist climbing a mountain pass, a dramatic winding mountain road, the iconic Aiguilles d’Arves overlooking the valley, as well as two regional emblems: Opinel knives and Beaufort cheese. It also locates the visitor center, essential points of interest, and local ski resorts.
This was a fun project to work on as the Maurienne Valley is an iconic destination in the French Alps, and it also happens to be where I first learned to ski, making it a meaningful place to map!
